I’m glad the portrait of Ben Franklin stayed the same on the new $100 bill. There’s something about his slight, tight frown, the paternal hint of disappointment in his eyes and those pursed, sealed lips that seem to say, “I don’t approve of what you’re doing, but I can’t stop you from rolling this banknote into a straw and ripping a fat rail of white lightning in the Buffalo Wild Wings handicapped bathroom stall, you goddamn beautiful disaster.”

It may come as no surprise that after today’s Tyrael-spam, I fell back down the Diablo 2 hole and can’t get out.

And that’s where my evening disappeared to.

"Thanks for the moves! Now get outta my face!" - Tony Masters, Taskmaster

Taskmaster.
I don’t think I ever could have anticipated I’d grow to like this character as much as I do. That said I like a lot of Marvel’s lesser known villains more than some of the ‘A-list’ ones that are more renowned. But right from the first time I saw him in a book, I liked the concept of Taskmaster.

Essentially he’s just a human. Nothing super about him physically. Granted he’s in peak physical shape for a human, but ultimately that’s all he is. So he’s horribly outclassed by just about everyone he comes across.

But his power (if you can call it that) struck me as incredibly cool. He can accurately replicate any fighting technique he observes. All he needs to do is watch you fight once and he’ll know every move you can make as well as how to flawlessly make them himself. That might not seem like much at first, but then you consider the kind of heroes and villains he faces, it’s no wonder this dude has managed to stay alive so long. The number of fighting styles and techniques he must have acquired over the years would be phenomenal. Under the right circumstances, I’m pretty sure that makes him rather deadly.

And sometimes he can be quite funny, especially when he knows how horribly outclassed he is and he either chickens out big time or tries to act brave and confident even though he’s got Captain America taking swings at him.

I just have this weird fondness for him and a few other Marvel ‘nobodies’ that I wish I’d see more of.
